The 2020 Ford Edge is probably one of my favourite family orientated SUVs. Despite its namesake, the Ford Edge’s handling is anything but edgy, but rather, the Edge delivers one of the smoothest, quietest and most refined drive experiences in its class. Furthermore, the included standard 2.0L EcoBoost is punchy and fun to drive as well. The only downside with the Edge was its interior. Unfortunately while the car itself provides lots of cargo room, the interior, while functional, has not yet received much in the way of updates in quite a while meaning that the interior is a little dated. However, taken as a whole the Edge is still a great handling SUV to own.
When it comes to the interior of the Ford Edge, it is by no means bad. It seats five and has loads of cargo room in the rear, however, the 2020 Ford Edge’s interior hasn’t changed that much since it first hit showrooms in 2007 and that has now begun to show. For example, the Edge’s steering wheel has way too many buttons whereas newer cars tend to have more streamlined designs. While the seats are comfortable and the cabin is quite roomy, the Edge’s interior does feel a bit dated.
On the other hand, the Edge delivers admirably on the road. Driving the Edge is best described as like driving on a cloud where Edmonton’s potholes are just an afterthought. The steering is also light but precise giving the Edge a compliant and refined driving experience. The Edge really is a superb SUV in the handling department. This great handling is complemented by an utterly superb and whisper quiet 2.0L 4 cylinder EcoBoost engine that is responsive and powerful. It is also decently fuel efficient and one can expect to get around 10-11L/100kms in mixed driving.
In conclusion, the Ford Edge is a pleasant surprise to drive. While its interior may be a bit dated, it handles incredibly well with a refined and compliant ride that keeps road bumps at bay. The included 2.0L EcoBoost engine is also superb matching power and fuel economy while still remaining quiet. If you want a great handling SUV as a young professional or for a growing family without compromising on the driving experience, the Ford Edge may be for you.
