Ford prides itself on the quality of its automobiles, how they are all designed with purpose. Ford trucks are built to be tough, reliable powerhouses. Ford SUV’s are capable, versatile jacks-of-all-trades. We’re never satisfied that they’re good enough, either—from engines, to exterior design, to high-tech features, we’re always pushing the envelope of what a vehicle can do.
So what happens when we design a vehicle for speed and performance, and push that envelope right over the edge? (Not over the Ford Edge—over the edge of awesome.)
The Ford GT
Make no mistake. The 2019 Ford GT is a race car in every respect. A team of engineers reconceptualized the idea of a sleek, aerodynamic car when they designed the frame. That super-lightweight body is made of carbon fibre, and the structure is made of high-strength aluminum, to keep the whole vehicle as streamlined as possible. Ever wanted to experience what it’s like to be going nearly 350 km/h (only on the track, of course *wink*)? The GT delivers, thanks to an almighty 647 horsepower, twin-turbocharged, intercooled 3.5L EcoBoost® V6.
Burning Rubber
When we called the Ford GT a race car, we weren’t just blowing a lot of hot air. Ford’s putting their money where their mouth is, and has been entering the GT in races around the world to put it through its paces against the competition. Not only has this speed-freak been keeping up with some of the best high-performance vehicles on Earth; it’s been leaving some of them in the dust. In 2016, the GT won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the oldest sports car endurance race in the world. In 2017 and 2018, the Ford GT won back-to-back International Motor Sports Association titles at Daytona.
Ford Performance
The Ford GT is a high-end performance vehicle, but it’s not the only performance vehicle in Ford’s lineup.
Want a sports car? The 2019 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is a high performance muscle car with a thunderous 5.2L Ti-VCT V8 engine providing 526 horsepower and. Matched to a performance-oriented six-speed manual transmission, and you’ll leave anyone on the road in your dust.
How about a performance truck? Take a look at the 2019 Ford F-150 Raptor. It takes performance off the beaten path with its high-output, off-road FOX Live Valve Racing Shox™, Terrain Management System, and High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost® V6. 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque will overpower any obstacle in your path.
Ford’s even got you covered with a performance SUV, courtesy of the 2019 Ford Edge ST. The 2.7L V6 turbocharged EcoBoost® engine gives you 335 horsepower, and 380 lb-ft of torque. Sport Mode handling holds gears for peak engine performance, and maximizes acceleration.
