Sometime, in the near future, we’ll tell our children about how productive we became after Overlord Musk and the ghost of Steve Jobs made non-autonomous driving, well, a thing of the past. Soon we’ll be filling out reports and hosting meetings on Skype on the way to work. Until that time, we’re stuck having to actually operate motor vehicles. While autonomous vehicles are still only a future prospect, Ford is bridging the gap and driving us one step closer to riding around in Hasselhoff-esque, Knight Rider style with its suite of safety features—the Co-Pilot360™ system.
Ford’s Co-Pilot360™ suite is a grouping of five safety features that form like Voltron to keep you safe while driving. We’re by no means suggesting that you throw it in cruise control and start scrolling the ‘Gram, but accidents do happen and Co-Pilot360™ can help avoid them. It all starts with keeping your path well illuminated—which Auto High Beam Lighting does with ease. Catch those deer in your headlights, and not your grille. If the deer froze, like conventional wisdom tells us they’re apt to do, then that’s when the Automatic Emergency Braking will kick in. After all, only you can stop roadkill. Spend more time cruising the city streets than country roads? Well it’s a good thing that the Automatic Emergency Braking comes with Pedestrian Detection. Because I’m pretty sure KITT only ran over the bad guys*.
*Note: please do not use your Ford to dole out any badass, 80s style vigilante justice.
But wait, that’s not all (*pitches Slap Chop*). The Co-Pilot360™ is also equipped with B.L.I.S. with Cross-Traffic Alert, Ford’s Blind Spot Information System. Like a good wingman, B.L.I.S. will warn you when any unwanted traffic sneaks into your blind spot. When you’re in reverse, Cross-Traffic Alert lets you know if any vehicles are approaching the back-end of your vehicle. Co-Pilot360™ also comes with a standard rear-view camera—meaning the only thing that’s going to sneak up you is old age.
Finally, Co-Pilot360™ comes with a Lane Keeping System, keeping you in check and in your lane. You don’t see Tom Brady trying to catch passes in the Super Bowl, do you? Well, you do see him try and fail miserably. So when we say you need to stay in your lane, literally and figuratively, you should do it. Avoid accidents, or proverbial egg on your face, thanks to Ford.
We’re not saying that Co-Pilot360™ is “the most advanced suite of standard driver-assist technologies” in North America—but Ford is. And they don’t make those types of big, brash statements without having the proof to back it up. Available this fall on any Ford you desire, Co-Pilot360™ is the best way to stay safe on the road.
