Forged from the most precious of minerals, mined deep within the earth; soft and supple leather, smithed from the hide of a unicorn. We aren’t talking about the robe of some spoiled king from a fantasy novel, and we aren’t talking about the sash of a president from some oil-rich nation. We’re talking about the Championship belt at Team Ford. A belt that can only worn by the greatest salesperson at our dealership — nay, the greatest salesperson on the planet. To the uneducated, the ignorant, the passer-bys, it may just appear to be a replica WWE Championship belt, but to the warriors at Team Ford it is so much more.
Before NHL and NBA and NFL players passed around hats and belts and shovels and whatever random junk they could find (presumably, the Calgary Flames pass around a fireman’s hat to signify what a dumpster fire their team is), Team Ford had the Championship belt. And on the first day of the month, our general manager coronates the salesperson with the best stats for the prior month; conferring upon them the most grail-like of objects. It is a ceremony without equal and makes the choosing of a new Pope look like drawing names from a hat. The celebration makes Alexander Ovechkin’s little Stanley Cup shenanigans look like a subdued fist pump.
Every month, the team gathers around our fearless leader, and the tension builds as the staff whisper amongst themselves. Who will it be this month? Joey “Right Hook” Jabz? Mark “The Shark” Yaghi? Victor “The-Real-Deal” Kim? Scott “The Hawk” Hawke? It doesn’t matter. Egos are put aside and sparkling non-alcoholic fruit beverage bottles are popped as the team celebrates, because the crew at Team Ford is just that: a team. And it doesn’t matter who wins, because we are all winners. Because we work at the best damn dealership in town.
In all seriousness, the Team Ford Championship belt is a symbol of what our work means to us. It’s a common goal that we reach for, and work hard every day to achieve. It’s not just about selling cars, but working together and creating lifelong customers through exceptional experiences. If staff members occasionally body slam other staff members, well that’s a risk we’re willing to take.
