The arrival of the 2018 Ford Focus RS Limited Edition makes a special addition to the wide-ranging and diverse world of the Ford Focus. This car isn’t just another trim option among many already available. It’s an outstanding, limited edition that features everything you already loved about the Ford Focus and combines it with fresh design, great new features and some serious under-the-hood pep!
The 2018 Focus RS
Alas, all good things must come to an end; 2018 is the last year that will see production of the Focus RS. This doesn’t mean, however, that the RS is going out with a whimper. Quite the contrary. The 2018 RS is available with details not previously seen in former instantiations of the Focus. For instance, the 2018 model is available an all-new Race Red and features striking new design accents like a Piano Black painted roof, side mirrors and real spoiler each bedecked with RS’ signature blue logo.
The RS’ last hurrah results in a vehicle that’s more advanced and exclusive than any of its predecessors. These enticing new features are clearly calibrated to deliver an optimal driving experience and include selectable RS driving modes with adjustable suspension and stability control, a heated leather-wrapped RS sport steering wheel and shift knob, and impressive 8.0-inch Sync 3 touchscreen infotainment system and innovative dual-zone automatic climate control. Also standard on the RS are carbon fiber gauge fixtures, a shifter and e-brake handle (not available on previous RS models), heated side mirrors, and new, exclusive Miko Suede material on the Recaro seats.
The biggest addition to the 2018 Limited Edition is the outfitting of the Quaife LSD to the front of the car, in addition to the rear unit. This innovation increases vehicle grip on the road and, thanks to the already great AWD system, it allows Focus RS to put the power down more efficiently, allowing the car to post formidable 0-60 times of 4.7 seconds, as well as achieve better cornering capability and handling.
The ferocious Ford Focus
Powered by a turbocharged 2.3L inline-four that wields some 350 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm, the Focus RS confidently leads its class, capable of serious speed on any surface. The EcoBoost four has the powerful growl of an angry hornet’s nest, snapping to attention with minimal turbo lag. Bazooka exhaust pipes loudly pop and snort between shifts and when decelerating, and there are lots of whooshes and chirps from the turbo under the hood that accentuate the Focus RS’ rally-car connection.
A fond farewell to the Focus RS
Keep an eye out for the Focus RS. It’ll be come and gone before you realize it. Exclusivity is a big part of the RS’ 2018 arrival in Canada. Of the 1500 units to be produced for North America, only 500 will be seen on Canadian roads. Let’s face it. With the incredible new features of the 2018 release, the RS is taking no prisoners with its final production model. Our advice? Don’t wait too long; these cars will be hard to come by before too long, and you’ll not want to be left out.
